The Raspberry Pi 3

skrodahl

Sorry, I didn't see the other thread. Go there for the latest information:
#3251

It's available now:
https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/raspberry-pi-3-on-sale/

According to Hackaday, the Raspberry Pi - with it's Quad Cortex A53 clocked at 1.2 GHz - is now powerful enough to be used as a desktop computer. Not only is it more powerful, it also has onboard Wifi and Bluetooth!

Hi All,

Can Rune confirm whether this is directly compatible with the current version of Rune Audio? I assume so but wanted to check.

Thanks,

Trevor

Hey,

I'm also interested if that's the case.

Hi,

Can Rune confirm whether this is directly compatible with the current version of Rune Audio?

RP3 is ordered, so we will see.

Hi all,

today my new Raspberry Pi 3 arrived.

RuneAudio is running with a modified (updated kernel and firmware) RP2 image.
Only Bluetooth and Wifi support is missing.

Will try to get the image out soon.

Got wifi working!

Hi Frank
How long do you think we will get a RP3 image available?
Cheers

Hello Frank,

is it possible to describe what I should do to get it working? Is it possible to do the update on a Pi-B ? Or can you share the updated files?

Regards, Menno.

Is it running under an 64 bit ArchLinux already?

hondagx35

Hi BayleeWylie,

Is it running under an 64 bit ArchLinux already?

No, because there is no support for 64 on any distribution available yet.
Or did i miss something?

It seems like it will soon be done!

Note: The current installation uses the 32-bit Raspberry Pi 2 armv7h root filesystem. This will be changing eventually to use our AArch64 repository to take full advantage of the ARMv8 Cortex-A53 cores. If you want an AArch64 system, consider the ODROID-C2.

Hi,

This will be changing eventually....

My english isn't very good, but it does not mean soon.

After using ArchLinux for years on the desktop, I wouldn't be surprised if it's sooner rather than later. We could also debate on how long "soon" can be  ... Anyway, what I meant by "soon" is that, as per seen on the forums, it seems that it will be taken care of rather quickly. The interest is there at least.

Hi Frank,

Can a basic version for Pi 3 be released to keep us going, i.e. Ethernet and USB connection only (wi-fi optional)?

Thanks,

Trevor

p.s. Your English is fine - I didn't realise until this thread that you weren't English...! 😃

Hi Trevor,

Can a basic version for Pi 3 be released to keep us going,

Yes it can.

I have a working image, all runs fine except bluetooth.
Please give me one more day to make some more test.

Frank

Hi guys,

I'm just bought my first PI for using rune. I'm really looking forward for the image for it. I tried the old one, but all i got was a rainbow image on starting the PI.

Yes, I too am waiting on support for the RPI 3. Thank you!

MSH

If you can't wait for the RuneAudio image for your Pi-3 you can use Moode instead (moodeaudio.org). You need to be able to add some files from Raspbian, but if you can you build a Pi-3 compatible image. See http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/pc-based/271811-moode-audio-player-raspberry-pi-198.html post 1975 and post 1998 for the internal WLAN.
I did it and can play audio through my USB-DAC. I don't have a I2S dac so I cannot test it in that configuration, but I assume that it will work also.

No thanks. Your suggestion is a little disloyal, isn't it? The guys here at Rune deliver a great product so, personally, I am happy to wait a short time for them to deliver.

I looked at Moode once, because I'm open-minded. It's appearance and operation is not as clean and professionally-designed as RuneAudio - I didn't see it as an advantage. Besides, most people here cannot build an image so the suggestion is inappropriate.

phalanger

I agree, the suggestion to switch to another program seems a bit inappropriate in this forum. After having tried both I also agree that Rune's interface is cleaner and its performance is significantly better than Moode. I will wait eagerly for Rune to support the RPi 3 before switching hardware.
